What is the enzyme?
Enzymes are naturally occurring high molecular weight proteins composed of around 200-250 amino acids with complex three-dimensional structure and are produced on a large scale by a fermentation process. These are found in plants, animals and micro-organisms and also play an important role in the functions of cells. Enzymes are organic catalyst and mediate a specific biochemical reaction with greater selectivity and highly specific mode of action that accelerates distinct reactions and remain unchanged after the reaction. Hence enzymes are biodegradable and can be absorbed back in to the environment after use.
Enzymes have a great potential for energy saving and have special characters like working in moderate reaction parameters, high sensitivity towards replacing/breaking down particular harsh chemicals or industrial conditions, their small quantity, high efficiency etc.
